Ecuador, officially the Republic of Ecuador is a representative and democratic republic in South America, bordered by Colombia to northern Peru in the east and south and the west Pacific Ocean. It is one of only two South American countries, along with Chile, which have no border with Brazil. The country also includes the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific, about 620 kilometers west of the peninsula

Ecuador straddles of Ecuador, which takes its name, and has an area of 98,990 miles square. Its capital is Quito, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the 1970s for having the best preserved and least altered historic center in Latin America. The largest city is Guayaquil. The historic center of Cuenca, the third largest city in the country, was declared a World Heritage Site in 1999 for being an outstanding example of a planned inland Spanish colonial style city in the Americas. [6] Ecuador is also home despite its size to a variety of species, many of them endemic, such as the Galapagos Islands. This diversity makes Ecuador one of the seventeen diverse countries in the world. The new Constitution of 2008 is the first in the world to recognize legally enforceable Rights of Nature, or ecosystem rights.

Ecuador is a presidential republic and became independent in 1830 after being part of the Spanish colonial empire and the Republic of Gran Colombia. It is a middle income country with an HDI score of 0.807 (2007), and about 38.3% of people living below the poverty line.

The Night Bus
During the month of January I have had the privilege of travelling to and from a couple of different places on the night bus. Okay the ability to visit places has been a privilege but the night bus is not my favorite. Given that it can take me an hour or two to fall asleep when I39m in a bed trying to rest on the bus has never been my strong suit. Ecuadorian night buses have three common

Let39s Galapago to Ecuador. I don39t know I39m out of funny titles ok The flights to Ecuador were a little unpleasant again due to the staggering persistence of American airlines in breaking all standing stupidity records. For starters the woman at the checkin desk reckoned we wouldn39t get into Ecuador without an ongoing flight. At no point during booking was this mentioned b

Realtime Rainforest
Hello hello were back in Quito once again after our little trip to Mindo. Mindo was beautiful and very relaxing. It rained everyday hence being in the rainforest but we made the best of it. We went Birdwatching on our last day with a local guide named Sandra. She spoke English and picked us up at 5 am to begin our tour with hopes to catch a glimpse of the cock on the rock.
