Ecuador, officially the Republic of Ecuador is a representative and democratic republic in South America, bordered by Colombia to northern Peru in the east and south and the west Pacific Ocean. It is one of only two South American countries, along with Chile, which have no border with Brazil. The country also includes the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific, about 620 kilometers west of the peninsula

Ecuador straddles of Ecuador, which takes its name, and has an area of 98,990 miles square. Its capital is Quito, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the 1970s for having the best preserved and least altered historic center in Latin America. The largest city is Guayaquil. The historic center of Cuenca, the third largest city in the country, was declared a World Heritage Site in 1999 for being an outstanding example of a planned inland Spanish colonial style city in the Americas. [6] Ecuador is also home despite its size to a variety of species, many of them endemic, such as the Galapagos Islands. This diversity makes Ecuador one of the seventeen diverse countries in the world. The new Constitution of 2008 is the first in the world to recognize legally enforceable Rights of Nature, or ecosystem rights.

Ecuador is a presidential republic and became independent in 1830 after being part of the Spanish colonial empire and the Republic of Gran Colombia. It is a middle income country with an HDI score of 0.807 (2007), and about 38.3% of people living below the poverty line.

No snowy peak here but a creamy avalanche suspended in time beaten white to blue held with what must be a whole continent of muscle. More of the view I hear you ask To the left of the porch stands two jack and the bean stalk bumps.. breastlike in their togetherness seemingly pr

Tourist traps and less beaten tracks
TahleiIt's worth remembering that popularity does not necessarily equal quality. In the past week we've had both end of the spectrum Ecuador's major tourist town of Baos and the much less visited Quilotoa Loop. While we found Baos to be underwhelming and not as good as expected the Quilotoa Loop was one of the most rewarding experiences of our trip but boy did we work for it.After drying o

Went to Latacungait was nice. The hostel I stayed at had a self guided walking tour of the city so I got to see a bunch of things I wouldnt have known about what Riobumba needed. I met people who I did part of the Quilotoa Loop with. I highlyreccomend it. The 1st night we got a bus to the LuLu Llama hotel in a town whose name I dont remember. We got a tour of a woodworkers studio. An Ita
