Uruguay, officially the Eastern Republic of Uruguay is a country located in the southeastern part of South America. It is home to some 3.3 million people, of which 1.1 million live in the capital Montevideo and its metropolitan area. It is estimated that 88% of the population is of European descent.

Uruguay's only land border is with Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, to the north. To the west lies the Uruguay River, the southwest is the estuary of the Río de la Plata, Argentina, just a short drive through banks of any of these bodies of water, while the southeast is the South Atlantic Ocean . Uruguay is the second smallest country in South America, being larger than only Suriname.

Colonia del Sacramento, one of the oldest settlements in European Uruguay, was founded by the Portuguese in 1680. Montevideo was founded by the Spanish in the early 18th century as a military stronghold. Uruguay won its independence in 1825-1828 following a three-way struggle between Spain, Argentina and Brazil. It is a constitutional democracy where the president fulfills the roles of both head of state and head of government.

The economy is based largely on agriculture (which constitute 10% of GDP and the largest export) and the state sector. According to Transparency International, Uruguay is considered the least corrupt country in Latin America (with Chile) [9] with its political and labor conditions are among the freest in Africa.

The second city of Uruguay to some has about 90 000 people and has managed to seem more relaxed and inviting then the last two places I have been.Somehow it reminds me of Kingston not sure why but it does.I walked from the bu

Made it to Uruguay
So unsurprisingly Sol made me stay awake all night again in celebration of me leaving again and the lack of sleep seems to have had a similar effect I passed out but this time it was on a boat rather than an airplane and because there were so few people on the ferry I was able to stretch out and actually sleep pretty wellBut this night was more eventful I got to see more evidence that

URUGUAY Montevideo
Montevideo was a lovely surprise. It had most of the modern amenities but with a distinctly oldfashioned feel. It was almost as expensive as Brazil though particularly for eating out but we put that down to the poor exchange rate.We found a very sweet Parisien style hotel in the historic centre of the city and stayed just three nights. The historic centre of Montevideo is well preserved with
