| A Glimpse behind Closed Doors on European Heritage Days |
|
European Heritage Days on the weekend of September 18th-19th offer the chance to go into a huge number of Europe's great buildings that are normally shut to the public. In France almost every large city and town opens the doors of its major historic buildings, monuments and government buildings to the public. So wherever you are, look out for treasures that are normally inaccessible. ... |

| Driving in France |
|
I like driving in France, particularly because of the huge road signs that advertise the local attractions so effectively. These enormous metal billboards with their simple graphics are everywhere. Sometimes the sign is for a specific attraction, like Pierrefonds with its extraordinary chateau between Compiègne and Senlis; sometimes it's a general one -- like the Sologne and its wonderful lakes; or maybe a historical event such as 'Le Camp du Drape d'Or' -- or the Field of the Cloth of Gold. ... |

| The Deauville American Film Festival, September 3rd to 12th |
|
It's glamorous, the programme is exciting and it's accessible. Just three great reasons to visit the Deauville American Film Festival. The well-established, highly regarded festival has been held here for 36 years. This year the special guest is Annette Bening, so you can see some of the films she was in, from Valmont (1989), Bugsy (1991) and American Beauty (1991) to the latest, The Kids Are All Right. ... |

| Great Food and Vintage Cars in Alsace at Salon Degusta, August 27th to 31st |

Alsatian wines are sensational, and here's a great chance to taste them at the Salon Degusta Food Festival. It's being held in the impressive Automobile Museum-- Schlumpf Collection in Mulhouse among the gleaming Rolls-Royces and the two Bugatti Royales, Hispano-Suiza and other legendary names. There are 437 cars from 97 different makes. Quite a collection. ... |

| Hot Air Balloon Champions over the Auvergne |
|
Every year, enthusiasts get together for the French Hot-Air Balloon Championships somewhere in France. This year, from August 24th to August 29th, they will sail serenely over the Auvergne skies in the Haut-Lignon region and Les Suc. It's a wonderful volcanic location (I love this region as I have a house here looking down onto the Allier River gorges). So I'll be there, watching the 50 balloons competing to find the target on the ground. Once located, the balloonists have to drop a marker from their basket as near as possible - or better still a bullseye shot. ... |

Travel to FranceWhile travelling to France, what the first thing goes through your mind? Rightly thought, yes it's the Paris, the wines and the landscapes. But France as a travel destination is much more than all this. So let's start the journey to rediscover France and get lost in the landscape. France right from the ancient period is the symbol of culture, values and resilience. France is surrounded by the great Mediterranean to its south and the long coastline of Atlantic Ocean to its west. To the North of France, lies the part of the Great Britain. France is divided into 22 administrative regions out of which the seven cultural regions are of prime importance. The most sought after destination in France is the picturesque Paris which has a timeless contemporary appeal. It is called as the city of lights and is a symbol of love. Paris is situated along the Seine River. The most visited one in Paris is Eiffel Tower, the Centre Pompidou and the Louvre museum. The next destination you will be heading to will be Bordeaux, the city of wine. The city will mesmerize you by its discreet charm. From the gastronomic greatness to artistic endeavors everything in Bordeaux will enthrall you to the core. Apart from the beauty it has the best wine in the world. The next tourist destination is the Lyon; it is the second largest city in France located in Rhone Alps. It has the history of roman civilization and resistance. Today as the things stand, it still has the footprints of the civilization. There is much more to this fascinating country than mountains and lakes. It has the greenery in the Nantes, which is one of the greenest tourist spot in Europe. Keep an umbrella while travelling in the Nantes since there will be a time when you will think that rains are at a distance but rains will surely surprise you by knocking your door. All in all a travelers paradise, where in you will have a tryst with the divine art, breathtaking architecture , stirring history, panoramic mountains, beautiful seas and in the end will get lost in the majestic landscapes of France. |
